Blomkamp’s followup to District 9 was a bit ham-fisted with it’s metaphors (almost to the point of being jarring at times).  But Elysium was still a fun sic-fi flick with great performances from Damon, Foster and Copley.  Given the tone and themes of the director’s last two films, it really made me think about how cool his take on Robocop could be.

CNN recently posted an interesting article, giving a brief history of the YA genre and arguing why it’s so hot right now.  Part of their reasons are no-brainers (characters relating to readers through fantasy/sci-fi metaphor, yadda-yadda-yadda).  But there were some other tidbits that both writers and readers of the genre will dig.  (It’s odd that Harry Potter got buried behind both Katniss and Bella in the photo essay, but whatev’s): Click here to read “A brief history of young adult literature.”
